Description
A combat flight simulator is a game genre that is rarely played by many people. The lack of games that have similar genres is certainly the main factor why this genre is rarely encountered by most gamers. The Ace Combat series is arguably one of the most popular flight simulator series, but this game was lost after the release of Ace Combat 6 on Xbox 360 and Ace Combat Infinity on PS3.
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is a thorny game with a geopolitical story between fantasy countries and all kinds of modern warplanes that have been produced in the real world. Entering 2019, Ace Combat comes with a concept that wants to provide a better experience of flying and fighting in the air.
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown – Review
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown continues the main story of the Ace Combat fantasy world, which is inspired by the real world. The two dominating countries consist of the Kingdom of Erusea, the Ocean Federation, and other small countries on the Use continent. The long war between Erusea and Osea was finally over, with the construction of a space elevator in the Erusea border region.
Erusea considered this an intervention of interest that was quite dangerous to their sovereignty so that in the end Erusea declared war and suddenly deployed troops to an important area of Osea. The player as one of the Osea Air Force pilots with the title Trigger will be an important figure in the front line of the battle.
One of the hallmarks of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is a single-player mission with a narrative that is continuously connected through cutscenes. The player character will not provide any voice or opinion, and the storyline will be viewed from a three-person perspective. First is a female mechanic Avril Mead, Queen Erusea Rosa Cosette D’Elise, and a researcher named Doctor Schroeder.
Throughout the game, I saw a storyline that gave a perspective from various sides. It could be that you will personally support Erusea’s move, or be ready to fight to defeat the drone fleet that blocks the advance of Osea troops. Indeed, there are not many scenes that give a dramatic impression, this is because Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown provides dramatic, exciting, and tense scenes in gameplay rather than stories.
One mission you can usually complete between 15-20 minutes. The developer provides several missions, and this checkpoint feels uncomfortable when having to work on a mission that is quite challenging. In some missions, your job is only to destroy as many enemies as possible until you reach a certain score, and in others, you keep going after defeating several enemy planes.
For missions with a certain score, often the player will run out of time before reaching the target, and you have to start over from the beginning. This is one drawback of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.
